Nestled in the Sonoma hills, Glen Ellen is a small town full of good food, kind people and a variety of great hotels. I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Olea Hotel, a tasteful establishment that has beautifully designed rooms, a pool, hot tub, communal fire pit and a delicious two-course gourmet breakfast.
Olea Hotel maintains a classic design with all the modern amenities that you would desire when seeking a restorative break. Rooms are spacious, beds are comfy and cavernous bath tubs allow for a peaceful soak. If you’re looking for some fresh air, private seating areas outside each room allow for you to take in the peaceful Sonoma surroundings.
Each morning, I looked forward to a two-course breakfast in the well-let dining room and the menu included a sweet course, as well as a savory course.
The first day, I had macadamia nut pancakes served with a side of homemade whipped cream. The second course was a butternut squash puree with potatoes and an egg.
The second day saw a first course of yogurt with fruit, granola and chia seeds. The second course was an egg served on a bed of mashed potatoes with pork sausage on the side.
After breakfast, Glen Ellen has a variety of great hikes which you can seek out. There are miles of trails that both locals and tourists enjoy. If you head out on a hike, expect meadows of oak trees, peaceful creeks and rolling hills.
After your hike, head back to the hotel for wine that is served in the lobby. Grab yourself a glass and head out to the communal fire pit to start your evening off.
Once the light has faded over the Mayacamas mountains, you will likely start to get hungry. If that’s the case, you will be spoilt for options when it comes to dinner. Fan favorites include Glen Ellen Star, The Fig Cafe and Yeti. Make sure to get a reservation though!
After dinner, retire to your comfy bed at the Olea Hotel and fade into a pleasant sleep, knowing that a delicious breakfast awaits you in the morning!
