Nestled in the heart of downtown Paso Robles, The Piccolo is an intimate boutique hotel inspired by the small yet mighty instrument. Throughout my stay there were many thoughtful details and amenities and they hit all of the highest notes! One can toast to the town at the Moët & Chandon champagne vending machine, enjoy a taste of local wines at The Piper Wine Lounge, or take in views of downtown Paso Robles’ at Tetto rooftop bar. There’s also a courtyard with fire pits and it’s the perfect spot to unwind with a glass of wine in hand.
The Piccolo provides guests an authentic Paso Robles experience and worked from the ground up with the best local craftsmen and artisans to create it. For example, there are custom chandeliers by Santa Maria-based blacksmith Hans Duus and a 76-foot hand painted “Flora of Paso” mural in the courtyard by LC Studio Tutto. The mural reflects how Paso Robles’ newest hotel merges regional culture, history, and nature with a fresh modern perspective to celebrate local roots.
Each of the 24 rooms blend rustic charm with a sophisticated, urban vibe. There are floor-to-ceiling windows, exposed brick walls, handcrafted furniture, sliding barn doors, and personal wine fridges. I was excited to find a $10 gift card for the local coffee shop, Spearhead lying on my bed in addition to a hand-written note – a sweet surprise!
Located on the top floor of the hotel, The Somm Suite boasts 738 square feet of luxurious comfort for guests seeking a truly elevated experience. It features one King bedroom, two bathrooms, a Juliet balcony overlooking the courtyard, and a stylish living space complete with a sofa bed, wet bar, and dining area.
The hotel also offers a selection of dog-friendly rooms for an additional fee of $50 per night, for up to 2 dogs with a maximum fee of $100 per stay. Advance notice is required and Pup Perks include a food/water bowl, blanket, treats, and waste bags.
There is so much to see and do in Paso Robles and if you need help with crafting an itinerary, the concierge is happy to assist guests with making dinner reservations, booking wine tastings, scheduling transportation, or simply providing recommendations. With almost 300 wineries, more than 40,000 vineyard acres, and 40 wine varietals, there’s a fine Paso Robles wine to please any palate – and many ways to experience them!
Overall the service was warm, friendly, and many staff members I interacted with were Paso Robles locals. They were kind enough to provide recommendations for the best restaurants and places to visit in the area and it was interesting to chat with them about the ways they’ve watched the town grow exponentially over the years.
Overall, I had a wonderful stay at The Piccolo. It’s an exciting spot to stay at in downtown Paso Robles and is walking distance to great restaurants and shops. It was cool to experience a hotel with a strong sense of community and brimming with local flavor. I look forward to making The Piccolo my home base for many more adventures in Paso Robles!
